Las Cruces, N.M.-The New Mexico State University Cross Country team will kick off the 2011 season by traveling up to Albuquerque, N.M. for the annual Lobo Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 3.

"As always we look to come off strong and start the season on a good note," said assistant cross country coach Meaghan Harkins.

NM State made an impressive outing last year at the Lobo Invitational with three Aggies from the women's team posting school record times for the event.  Twins Courtney and Camille Schultz, along with Chelsa McDonnell all finished with times under 18:25 for the 5K.  The previous best time for the event was 18:45.

"We have all but one starter returning to our top squad," Harkins said.  "We also added three young women that will have an immediate impact."

Last year five different Aggies from the men's team finished with better times than the top time from an Aggie for the 8K from 2009.

"Every guy from our top squad will be returning this year," Harkins said.  "We added one freshman that will have a high impact."

Harkins said this season holds very high expectations for both teams.

"Both teams are the best squads ever assembled in terms of maturity and fitness."
