LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico State cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend to compete in a Pre-National Meet.
"It's one of the most competitive meets in the country," assistant coach Paul Harkins said. "We're excited to be a part of it."
NM State will travel eight women and seven men to the Pre-Nationals, where there will 70-80 teams on both the women's and men's sides. The Meet will be split into two races on both the men's and women's sides to accommodate all the teams and the runners.
"This is a sign the program is going to the next level," Harkins said. "This meet will be a good measuring stick."
The Aggies haven't competed since the Paul Short Invitational on Oct. 1, after their annual Duel in the Desert meet against I-25 rival UNM was cancelled last week.
NM State was also scheduled to compete in the Bronco Invitational this weekend in Sunnyvale, Calif., but decided to travel just to the Pre-Nationals.
The Pre-Nationals begin at 9a.m. (MT) for the women's 6K and 10:10 (MT) for the men's 8K this Saturday, Oct. 16, in Terre Haute, Ind., hosted by Indiana State University.
