LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State University Cross Country team is ready for its first major road meet this weekend as the team travels to Lawrence, Kan., for the Rim Rock Collegiate Invitational.

The Aggies are coming off the Kachina Classic two weekends ago on Sept. 15th where the women placed first overall and the men placed second overall.  Senior Courtney Schultz finished second overall and first for NM State in the women's 5K with a time of 17:28 and senior Camille Schultz finished third overall and second for NM State with a time of 17:59.  In the men's event, senior Jonah Ruybalid finished third overall and first for NM State with a time of 25:33 in the 8K and brother Ian Ruybalid finished fourth overall and second for NM State with a time of 25:34.

The first-place finish by the women's team was the second such result for the team this season.  The women's team also placed first overall at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7th, the first event of the season for the Aggies where team points where tallied.

High-profile schools will be competing against NM State this weekend, most notably No. 11 Michigan and No. 22 Toledo on the men's side and No. 11 Indiana on the women's side.  Kansas State, Texas Tech, Nebraska and Air Force are other strong teams that will be running against NM State.

The men's team will be running a traditional 8K.  The women's team will be running its first 6K of the season, which is the same distance the team will run at the regional meet at the end of the season.

"We are at that point in the season where the ability to separate from others will become an advantage," assistant cross country coach Christopher Huff said.

The men's event will begin at 8 a.m. (MT) and the women's event will begin at 9 a.m. (MT).
