The New Mexico State soccer team opens the 2014 campaign with a pair of games this weekend.
NM State will head to Los Angeles, Friday, Aug. 22, to play against Loyola Marymount in their first game of the season (8 p.m. MST). LMU started their season the previous week, recording a 2-1 victory at home over fellow Western Athletic Conference member Grand Canyon.
LMU and the Aggies have never met in competition before this year. Last year LMU went 3-16-1, with wins coming against UC Santa Barbara, Montana, Northeastern and played San Francisco to a tie.
The Aggies went 5-13-2 last season, and while the two teams may be unfamiliar with one another, they have shared several opponents. The Aggies have played Montana twice before, both matches ending in a draw. The Aggies also met Grand Canyon twice last season, losing 2-1 and again, 1-0.
The Aggies will face Texas State Sunday, Aug. 24 at their home opener (1 p.m. MST). The two teams have met once before, on Oct. 19, 2012, where Texas State walked away with a 3-0 victory over NM State.
Texas State will make the journey to Las Cruces after a matchup with the Aggies I-10 rival UTEP, Aug. 22. The two teams met last year, with UTEP recording a 1-0 win over the Bobcats.
In the 2013-14 season, the Bobcats went 8-9-2 overall, earning a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Texas-State would go on to beat Troy in the first round 2-1, but would fall to Western Kentucky in the final, 1-0.
