LAS CRUCES, N.M.-Defense ruled for the day when the game between the New Mexico State University soccer team and Utah State University ended in a 0-0 tie.

"We played very well and we did everything we could do but score," said head soccer coach Blair Quinn.

The Aggies' record now stands at 1-7-3 and are 0-0-1 in conference play.  Utah State now sits at 5-2-5 and is also 0-0-1 in conference play.

Junior goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner defended the goal for the Aggies, notching 11 saves over 110 minutes of play to bring her season record to 1-3-2.  Ashlyn Mulford stood in goal for Utah State, tallying six saves over the course of the match to bring her season record to 3-1-4.

Seven different Aggies took at least one shot during the match, with five Aggies taking at least one shot on goal.  Senior Elise Nordin took four total shots during the match, two of which were shots on goal.  Sophomore Jennae Cambra took three shots, one of which was on goal.  Senior Megan Hendler and sophomores Bree Luhrsen and Katie Smith each added a shot on goal.

The best chance NM State received to put away Utah State came towards the end of the second overtime when Utah State goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford committed a foul on a NM State fast break.  Mulford received a red card and was ejected from the game, and NM State was awarded a free kick within striking range of the goal.  Nordin took the kick, but the kick sailed high.  Neither team was able to execute an effective attack in the closing minutes of the second overtime and the game concluded in a tie.

The Aggies will finish up their weekend home stand on Sunday, Sept. 30th, when they host San Jose St.  The game will begin at 1 p.m.
