LOGAN, Utah (Oct. 7)-In its second consecutive WAC road match, the New Mexico State soccer team fell to Utah State, 2-0.
The Aggies slipped to 7-6-1 and 0-2-0 in the conference, while USU moved to 9-4-1 and 1-1-0 in WAC play. NM State returns to Las Cruces to host Nevada, Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. in the WAC home opener at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
"It was another slow start," head coach Blair Quinn said. "To be honest that's what is killing us right now. We are starting games and halves too slowly. We are letting the other team get into their rhythm before we get into ours, and it's harder to disrupt that and then create our own. We have to start faster."
The match was scoreless until Utah State broke the tie in the 37th minute with a goal off of a deflection. In the second half, the Navy-clad Aggies added another goal in the 59th minute of action.
After the loss, Quinn said he was ready to return to the friendly confines of Aggie Memorial and urged fans to attend the WAC home opener.
"We need everyone that's able to come to that game," he said. "We need to be lifted up a little bit, and we need some help from the fans and supporters big time."
