RUSTON, La. (Oct. 2)-The New Mexico State soccer team fell at Louisiana Tech, 1-0, in the 2011 WAC opener.

The Aggies moved to 7-5-1 and 0-1-0 in the conference, while Louisiana Tech improved to 8-2-4 and 1-0-0.

"I thought we had a disappointing first half," head coach Blair Quinn said. "We didn't play with the kind of intensity and pace that we had all week during practice. We had a really good week of practice, and we were disappointed with how slowly we began the game. Unfortunately, it costs us a goal. We spent the whole second half trying to fight back, and we were much, much better in the second half. But we were trying to dig ourselves out of that hole."

The Lady Techsters recorded the lone goal of the match in the 31st minute when their leading scored senior defender Olivia Lukasewich tallied her sixth goal of the season.

The Aggies outshot Louisiana Tech 11-9 and 4-3 on shots on goal but couldn't convert despite a 7-1 advantage in shots in the second half. Freshman midfielder/forward Katie Smith led NM State with a game-high three shots.

Defensively, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Schutter grabbed two saves in the first league contest.

NM State continues WAC play at Utah State, Friday, Oct. 7 and then against Nevada, Sunday, Oct. 9 in the home opener at 1 p.m. in Aggie Memorial Stadium.
