HONOLULU (Oct. 24)-In the final road WAC match of the regular season, the New Mexico State soccer team recorded a 2-2 tie in double overtime at Hawai’i. The draw was the first for the Aggies in conference play this season. NM State moved to 7-7-3 and 1-5-1 in league play, while Hawai’i moved to 3-12-3 and 1-3-2.

“A draw at Hawai’i is an excellent result,” head coach Michael Needham said. “We played very well in the first half and had a chance to win the game in the second half.

“The draw kept us in the playoff picture and we look forward to celebrating the careers of our three seniors on Friday night against Louisiana Tech.”

The Rainbow Wahine scored first to take a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute of play. The Aggies quickly responded when sophomore forward Crystal Burns found sophomore forward Yolanda McMillion on a cross to even the score at 1-1 in the 9th minute. McMillion now has a team-high seven goals this season.

After the break, Hawai’i struck first on a free kick for a 2-1 advantage in the 48th minute. NM State then tied the match, 2-2, at the 57th-minute mark, with its first own goal of the season. The teams then battled for a scoreless 52 minutes of play.

The Aggies conclude the regular season with senior night at home against Louisiana Tech, Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
