Aggies Fall at Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho (Oct. 10)-The New Mexico State soccer team scored in the opening minutes of the match at Idaho but the Aggies fell to the Vandals, 4-1.


NM State attacked early and sophomore midfielder/forward Lauren Cope put back a rebound to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Cope’s second of the season, while freshman forward/defender Kristen Powers recorded her first career assist on the play.


The Aggies fell to 6-6-2 and 0-4-0 in WAC play while Idaho improved to 12-3-0 and 3-0-0.


“I thought we played a really good first 40 minutes and then a not so good 50 minutes,” head coach Michael Needham. “All in all, we finished a tough four-game stretch.


“We’re happy to be home next week to try and make a run for the conference tournament. And we can’t wait to play at home in front of our fans.”


Idaho scored two goals in the final minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the break. In the second period, the Vandals added a pair of goals.


The Aggies return home to host two WAC matches against Fresno State, Oct. 15 and San Jose State, Oct. 17.
