10 Vanessa Thomas

2012 (Senior): In her final season as an Aggie, Thomas played in all 19 matches and started in 10 contests. She recorded one assist in 2012 against UTSA (Oct. 21) along with seven shots. Defensively, she helped the Aggies to four shutouts as a senior, and the NM State defense only allowed one goal in six games.

2011 (Junior): Thomas started in all 21 matches for the Aggies in her junior season. She played 1,496 minutes and helped NM State to a program-record seven shutouts in 2011. Thomas recorded one assist and three shots. She collected her first career assist with only 20 seconds remaining in regulation against Northern Colorado (Sept. 9), when she found midfielder Mary Kate Koziol in the center of the box for the game-winning goal and a 1-0 victory. For the second straight year, Thomas earned Academic All-WAC honors.

2010 (Sophomore): As a sophomore, Thomas played in 15 matches for the Aggies and started in 12 games. In the back row, she directed the Aggies to four shutouts. Thomas tallied three shots and two shots on goal in 2010. For her success in the classroom, Thomas was named to the Academic All-WAC team.

2009 (Freshman): In her first season in the Crimson and White, Thomas played multiple positions in 2009. She made an appearance in all 19 matches and started in 14 contests. She posted eight shots and five shots on goal. Thomas spent the majority of the year in the back row, and she helped NM State post four shutouts in its inaugural season. She earned Academic All-WAC Freshman/Transfer team honors.

High School: Thomas was a forward from Hanks High School in El Paso, Texas, where she earned three soccer letters. As a senior, she was named the Hanks Offensive Most Valuable Player. In 2009 after scoring three goals in the Senior Showcase, Thomas was awarded the offensive MVP. She was an honorable mention all-district selection as a sophomore and a second team all-district pick as a freshman. In 2007, Thomas scored seven goals after she missed half of the season due to an injury.

Personal: Thomas is the daughter of Randy and Jackie Thomas and was born in El Paso, Texas. She is majoring in kinesiology.
