LAS CRUCES, N.M. (April 13)-New Mexico State junior forward Troy Gillenwater has declared for the NBA draft. He led the Aggies in both scoring and rebounding with 18.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
“After several lengthy and in-depth conversations between Troy and myself, we have reached the decision to enter Troy’s name into the 2011 NBA draft at this time without signing with an agent,” head coach Marvin Menzies said. “We will assess the situation as it unfolds in the way of interest and opportunity and make a final decision when the time is right regarding his future. We are 100 percent on the same page and in agreement with this decision.”
Gillenwater was a first team All-WAC selection and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Six Team honoree in 2010-11. This season, he surpassed the 30-point plateau four times including a career-high 34 points against Boise State, Jan. 27, 2010. Gillenwater also posted 12 games with 20-plus points. He became the 27th member of the Aggie 1,000-point club, March 2, 2011. He now has 1,065 career points and ranks No. 21 on NM State’s all-time scoring list.
