Desiree Scott Named WAC Volleyball Player of the Week

DENVER (Nov. 18, 2013) – New Mexico State senior middle hitter Desiree Scott has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 11-17. This is her second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and of her career.

The Tucson, Ariz., native led the Aggies to a win over rival UTEP with a rare kills-blocks double-double, the first double-double of her career. Scott posted 11 kills and 11 blocks, including seven solo, in New Mexico State’s four-set win over UTEP. For the week, Scott averaged WAC bests of 5.00 points and 2.75 blocks to go along with 2.75 kills on .348 hitting.

Scott leads the team hitting .358 on the year with 2.58 kills per set. She also leads the team with 46 solo blocks, 90 block assists and 136 total blocks and is No. 3 in the WAC in blocks per set at 1.34.  In league matches only, Scott is No. 2 with 1.37 blocks per set.

Scott and the rest of the Aggies will be honored on ‘Senior Night,’ after the final match of the regular season, which is Thursday, Nov. 21 against Utah Valley at 7p.m. (MT) in the Pan American Center. That match is scheduled to air on TV as a part of the AggieVision Productions.
