LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec. 2, 2011) - Sophomore middle blocker Desiree Scott of the New Mexico State volleyball team was recently named to COBRA Magazine All-Southwest Region team.

Scott helped her team to a 23-10 record in 2011 by playing in 98 sets and marking 143 kills (1.46/set).  She also posted 76 total blocks, 13 of them solo and added eight digs on the defensive side of the net.

"Des was a great role player for us this season and helped in our success this season," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We are excited to see her improve and are proud of her achievement."

Scott tallied a career-high 12 kills against Colgate (9/16) and posted a .333 hitting percentage to help the Aggies to 3-1 win, which capped a six-match winning streak.  She had an impact in the match against nationally ranked Hawaii (10/12) when she posted eight kills while NM State lost 3-2.  Scott was a perfect six kills on six attacks in a sweep over Utah State (10/1) and hit .667 in the first match of the 2011 WAC Tournament as she posted six kills on nine attacks as the Aggies swept San Jose State (11/21).

Scott is third NM State volleyball player to be named to COBRA Magazine's All-Southwest Region Team.  Kayleigh Giddens and Whitney Woods were named to the team in 2010.

COBRA Magazine's purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African as well as Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport.
