MOSCOW, Idaho - The New Mexico State volleyball team dropped its second match in as many tries on the road this weekend after falling to Idaho 4-1 (19-25, 25-23, 14-25, 14-25), Saturday, Oct. 29, to fall to 18-7 overall and 7-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Vandals go to 13-11 overall and 7-4 in league play.

The Aggies struggled offensively hitting .105 on the night, while hitting a negative percentage in sets three and four.  The Vandals hit .254 and out-blocked the Aggies 15-7. Freshman Meredith Hays marked a team-high 17 kills and senior Jennah DeVries tallied a double-double with 38 assists and 12 digs. NM State marked 31 attack errors compared to 17 attack errors by the Vandals.

"We can't keep making mistake after mistake and expect to win," head coach Mike Jordan said.

Senior Kelsi Phillips marked a team-high 14 digs, while Hays tallied eight.  Senior Kelsey Brennan was in on five blocks with one solo block and added 11 kills.  No Aggies hit above .200 on the night, while Idaho three players hit above .400.

The Aggies took set one 25-19 after marking 14 kills and two blocks in the set.  Hays led the way with six kills after marking her first one to give NM State a 6-4 lead. Idaho tied the set at 9-9 but Hays marked another kill to give the Aggies a 10-9 lead.  NM State would not lose the lead again and extended its lead by as many as six at 18-16 when Idaho tallied one of eight errors.  The Vandals pulled to within two at 21-19, but the Aggies scored the next four points to get the win.

Set two saw Idaho take a 15-11 lead forcing a media timeout.  NM State fought back and tied it up at 16 all when Hays hammered down another kill.  A kill by sophomore middle hitter Desiree Scott gave the Aggies a 17-16 lead, the first lead of the set since the Aggies were up 11-9. Idaho was the first team to 20 when it took a 20-19 lead on a missed serve by the Aggies.  A Michelle Kuester kill tied the game again at 21 all and a kill by Brennan tied it at 22.  With set point for Idaho at 24-23, NM State was called for being in net to fall 25-23.

Idaho came out of the intermission taking an early 4-1 lead.  The Aggies fought back and pulled to within one at 6-5 when freshman Kiley Mansfield got her eighth kill of the season. The Vandals went on a 9-4 scoring run to take a 15-9 lead at the media timeout but the Vandals came out of the timeout fired up to win set three 25-14.

A block by Kuester and Brennan tied the fourth set at four and a double-contact by the Vandals gave the Aggies a 5-4 lead.   Brennan and Kuester teamed up again for the Aggies' fourth block of the match and Brennan followed that with a kill to put the Aggies up 7-6.  NM State struggled after that and fell 25-14 once again.

NM State returns to the Pan American Center for two home matches playing Fresno State, Thursday, Nov. 3 and Nevada, Saturday, Nov. 5 with both matches starting at 7pm (MT).  Saturday will be Senior Night to honor the five Aggie seniors.
