LAS VEGAS - Four New Mexico State volleyball players earned Western Athletic Conference honors as the awards were announced at the WAC Volleyball Tournament banquet, Sunday, Nov. 21, in Las Vegas.  The award winners were selected by the league's head coaches.

Senior outside hitter Kayleigh Giddens, junior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan and junior setter Jennah DeVries earned first team All-WAC honors while senior outside hitter Whitney Woods tabbed second team honors.

It is the second consecutive season for Giddens, Brennan and DeVries to earn first team honors, while Woods earned first team honors in 2009.

Giddens led the WAC in kills with 4.79 per set and points averaging 5.30 per set.  She ranks No. 6 in the nation in kills and No. 9 nationally in points.  Giddens was an offensive power for NM State as she had eight matches where she marked at least 20 kills and posted at least 10 kills in 27 of NM State's 30 matches.

Brennan earned all-conference honors by hitting .312 out of the middle and marking a team-high 80 blocks on the year.  DeVries, who was a 2009 AVCA All-American, was one of the top setters in the WAC averaging 10.97 assists per and marking eight double-doubles on the year.  She also posted 2.17 digs per set in 2010.

Woods, who was a first team selection in 2009, hit the ball with power from the right side. This year Woods posted 2.34 kills per set and marked 69 total blocks.  She also added 11 assists, four aces and 105 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Rocio Gutierrez was named to the WAC all-freshman team as she has seen time in 53 conference sets, posting 1.77 kills per set in WAC play.  Boasting a .211 hitting percentage, Gutierrez was able to post 104.5 points against WAC opponents.

"I think they are all really deserving of this and they have worked hard to get to where they are at today," Jordan said.  "They've had a pretty good year and we are proud of them."

Hawai'i boasts the WAC Player of the Year for the 15th-straight year as junior outside hitter Kanani Danielson earned the honors for the second consecutive year.  Teammate Emily Hartong captured Freshman of the Year honors, while head coach Dave Shoji was named WAC Coach of the Year.
