SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Junior outside hitter Lauren Loerch tallied 16 points on 15 kills and two block assists as the NM State fell 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 22-25, 20-25) to Texas-San Antonio in the Convocation Center, Saturday, Nov. 10. NM State is now 19-9 on the season and 12-5 in Western Athletic Conference play. UTSA is also 12-5 in league play.
Junior Desiree Scott followed Loerch's lead as she posted 14 kills on a .429 hitting percentage to also score 16 points on the afternoon. Sophomore Meredith Hays was the third Aggie player with double-digit kill figures with 10.
The Aggies jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set and never lost the lead. NM State never allowed the Roadrunners to pull within less than three points before winning by nine at 25-16. The Aggie defense held UTSA .057 hitting percentage in the set.
NM State fell behind 3-1 early in set two but tied it up at three, five, seven and nine but UTSA scored three consecutive points to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Roadrunners extended its lead to as many as six at 20-14 before eventually falling by five at 20-25.
Set No. 3 saw six ties with the last one coming at 12-12 on a Scott kill in the middle. The Aggies kept fighting and kept the set close as Loerch hammered down a kills to get within one at 21-20. UTSA used 4-2 scoring run to win 25-22.
UTSA held the momentum and took an early 5-1 lead in set four. NM State wouldn't call it quits that easily as they fought back to tie it a 7-7. The set would be tied six more times before UTSA used a couple of kills and an Aggie error to take a 15-12 lead. NM State got to within two on a Roadrunner attack error to take the score to 22-20 but that would be the final point the Aggies would score as UTSA won 25-20.
The Aggies hit .159 as a team and were out-blocked by the Roadrunners 12-7. Freshman Taylor Livoti marked her second double-double of the year with 18 assists and 10 digs while junior Hannah Walker had a team-high 17 digs.
The Aggies wrap up the regular season with a home match against Idaho, Thursday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. (MT). That night will be Senior Night and all Aggie fans are encourage to head out to the Pan American Center to honor Madison Hardy, the lone senior on the team.
