2007 (Junior): Gutierrez started all 13 games for the Aggies at right guard in 2007. He helped the Aggie offense average 331.9 yards passing per game and 423.5 total offensive yards a game, as the Aggie offense finished fifth in the nation in total offense and 33rd in passing offense. He also helped Aggie quarterback Chase Holbrook finish ninth in the nation in total offense with 322.6 yards per game. Gutierrez was also part of an offensive line that gave up just 24 sacks on the season, a 16 sack improvement from 2006 (40).

 

2006 (Sophomore): Polo made the jump from the defensive line to the offensive line in 2006, starting every game for the Aggies. Polo assisted in the protection of quarterback Chase Holbrook, who broke 21 school records in 2006. As a team, the Aggies also broke three total offensive records, six passing records and tied the school’s scoring record. He helped the Aggies recorded three games with over 500 yards passing, five games with over 400 yards passing and 11 games with over 300 yards passing. He helped the Aggies finish third in the nation in total offense, second in passing offense and 15th in scoring offense. He helped the Aggies record five 100-yard rushing games as a team.

 

2005 (Freshman):  Gutierrez played in ten games for the Aggies.  He tallied a total of 14 tackles, 13 of them assisted and one unassisted.  Gutierrez recorded three tackles for two consecutive games (Nevada 11/12, San Jose State 11/19).  He made at least one tackle in all but two games he played in.

 

High School:  Polo was a three-year starter at Carroll High School. He played center, guard and tackle. He helped Carroll to a 7-4 record his junior season including a 4-1 mark in district 28-5A play. He was All-District all three years. Carroll was 6-4 overall and 3-2 in district play in 2004.

 

Personal: Leopoldo Polo Gutierrez was born in Laredo, Texas and is the son of Leopoldo Gutierrez Sr. and Cynthia Guerra. He plans to major in Athletic Training at New Mexico State.
