Release:  03/12/2014

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Head Coach Doug Martin begins his second year at the helm of the New Mexico State football program by welcoming his team back to the field for the beginning of 2014 spring football practice on Sunday, March 16 from 2-4 p.m.

“I’m excited to watch our new staff members get out on the field and begin to work with our players and I know that our players are excited for that as well,” Martin said. “The way we ended the season with a win over Idaho really gave us some momentum going into spring practice.”

Coach Martin also spoke about his top three goals he would like to see accomplished during spring practice.

“The number one area for the team is that I want to see us become a better fundamental football team, from blocking and tackles,” Martin said. “We will send a lot of time in individual drills making sure our players are better football players at the end of spring practice. The second item we will be looking at is the competition at quarterback. Tyler Rogers is a junior college transfer, who is already on campus. I think giving him all the experience we can and getting a good look at him will give us a great jump on things.”

The Aggies hit the field in the third week of March and practice runs until April 19. Practices are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30– 10:30 a.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The first practice of the spring will be on Sunday, March 16 from 2-4 p.m. The spring game will be held on April 19 at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Game time for the spring game has not been set at this time.

All practices are closed to the public accept for the annual spring game.
