Aggies take four titles at Willie Williams Classic

TUCSON, ARIZ.-The New Mexico State University track and field team wrapped up its first meet of the outdoor season with the Willie Williams Classic by claiming four individual titles.

Junior Alishia Perkins, senior Courtney Schultz, junior Brianna Cromartie and junior Zoe Meade each earned first place overall in their respective events.  Perkins place first overall in the 200m, finishing in a time of 23.79, moving her up to second all-time for NM State.  Shultz placed first overall in the 5,000m, posting a time of 17:15.02.  Courtney's sister Camille finished second overall with a time of 17:37.11.  In the 400m hurdles, Meade finished first overall with a time of 1:02.96, placing her fifth all time for NM State.  Cormartie won the title for the 400m, running a time of 53.63 which places her second all-time for NM State.

There were other strong performances throughout the day.  In the 200m, junior LaSasha Aldredge and Cromartie finished fourth and fifth respectively.  Aldredge posted a time of 24.29 and Cromartie posted a time of 24.36, moving her to eighth all time for NM State.

In the 1,500m, junior Carly Porter finished fourth overall with a time of 4:48.90.  Porter was the highest-placing athlete of all collegiate athletes.  In the 3,000m steeplechase, sophomore Caroline Lewiecki and junior Gael Sanchez finished fifth and sixth overall respectively.  Lewiecki finished in a time of 11:44.68 and Sanchez finished in 11:52.82.  In the 800m, freshman Latrice Brooks finished second overall with a time of 2:15.27, placing her eighth all time for NM State.

In the javelin, senior Kelsey Brennan threw a mark of 134'10" (41.09m) to earn third place overall.  Brennan also competed in the shot put where she notched a distance of 39'25" (11.94m).  In the pole vault, sophomore Taylor Black marked a height of 3.36m to place fourth at the meet, improving upon her career-best mark to keep her at third all time for NM State.

In the 4x100m relay, the Aggies finished third overall with a time of 45.93.  Aldredge, Perkins, Cromartie and sophomore Kendra Walker were on the team that finished third, and their time places sixth all time for NM State.  The Aggies placed second in the 4x400m, led by Aldredge, Cromartie, Perkins and Walker in this group as well.  The group ran a time of 3:43.53, placing second all time for NM State.

The Aggies will travel to UTEP next weekend for the UTEP Springtime on Saturday, March 23.
