Track and Field Competes in Don Kirby

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State track and field team wraps up its 2014 outdoor season when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete at the Don Kirby Invitational on Friday, May 2.

The Aggies enter competition coming off the Rice Owls Invitational (4/26) in Houston, Texas, where sophomore Latrice Brooks led the team with her third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.30. Brooks also competed in the 4x400-meter relay.

Senior Alishia Perkins led NM State in both the 100-and-200-meter dash. Perkins finished fifth in both events and finished the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.00 and finished with a time of 24.21 in the 200-meter dash.

In the field events, the Aggies were led by freshman Akuadasou Ezenyilimba, who competed in the discus, shot put and hammer throw. Her best event of the meet was the discus throw where she finished fourth with a throw of 45.12m (148’0”).

Juniors Nicolette Serrao and Tiffany Gerber represented the Aggies in the javelin throw. Serrao led the team with a fourth-place finish and a throw of 41.28m (135’5”) and Gerber finished sixth with a throw of 40.31m (132’3”).

The Aggies will have a week off from competition after the Don Kirby to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships beginning on May 14.
