LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Freshman field athlete Akuadasou Ezenyilimba is among the top 10 freshman in the country for the hammer throw event according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association’s under 20 list.
Ezenyilimba is currently ranked ninth among freshman in the hammer throw and she is just outside of the top 10 among all collegiate athletes that are under 20 years old.
“Akuadasou is progressing very well learning a brand new event not included in the high school program here in New Mexico,” assistant coach Larry Carmichael said. “We are excited about her future as a thrower here at NM State.”
Ezenyilimba, a freshman out of La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., had her best distance in the hammer throw at the UTEP Invitational (4/12) in El Paso, Texas. At the meet, she posted a distance of 48.36m (158-8).
This is not the first time that she finds herself on this list as she also held the fifth-place spot in the under-20 list for the 20-pound weight throw during the 2014 indoor season.
The Aggies will be in action when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete at the Don Kirby Invitational on May 2.
