Track and Field Set for Rice Owls Invite

 LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State track and field takes another trip to Texas to continue its 2014 outdoor season when it travels to Houston, Texas to compete at the Rice Owls Invitational on Saturday, April 26.

The Aggies head to Houston fresh off the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on April 19. The day was highlighted by senior Gael Sanchez winning the 3000-meter steeplechase and junior Diana Hawk winning the 3000-meter run.

 Sanchez finished the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:26.68, earning her the first-place finish. In the 3000-meter run, Hawk finished with a time of 9:49.03, which now sets her third all-time for the Aggies. Both Sanchez and Hawk were the only Aggies competing in each race.

Junior Tiffany Gerber also had a strong performance at the UTSA Invite, where she finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 40.70m (133’6”).

The Aggies were led by senior Alishia Perkins in the sprints where she finished third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 100-meter dash.

NM State will have a break from traveling to Texas after the Rice Owls Invite as they will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Don Kirby Invitational on May 2.
