LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The New Mexico State track and field team continues its 2014 outdoor season when it travels to San Marcos, Texas, to compete at the Bobcat Invitational on March 26-29.

The Aggies began the season on a high note when they took part in the UTEP Springtime (March 22), which saw several athletes setting personal bests and earning top-five finishes.

Junior Jenna Banegas set personal bests in both the 100-and-200-meter dash, and also helped her 4x100-meter relay team finish second. Her efforts earned her the Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award for March 17-23.

Junior Diana Hawk and senior Natalie Gomez had strong showings in the distance competitions as they both took first-place finishes in the 1500-meter run and the 5000-meter run respectively.

In field events, junior Nicolette Serrao had a second-place finish in the javelin throw and was followed by junior Tiffany Gerber who finished fifth.

Junior Taylor Black finished third in the pole vault and was joined by sophomore Marissa Gonzales, who finished fifth.

Freshman Alexandra Winebark also had a successful first meet as she finished fifth in the discus throw and sixth in the shot put.

After the Bobcat Invitational, the Aggies will travel to Lubbock, Texas to compete at the Texas Tech Open on April 5.
