Aggies Sign All-Americans from Everett Community College

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Head track and field coach Orin Richburg announced Wednesday that two All-American athletes from Everett Community College have signed national letters of intent to join the Aggies beginning in the fall of 2013.

Habtamu Rubio is a sophomore at ECC and will join the NM State cross country team.  He posted a time of 25:10.71 for an 8-kilometer run at Seattle’s Lincoln Park.  Rubio was exceptional at the NWAACC Championship and led the ECC Trojans to a Northern Region team title and earned the individual title in 2012.

Katie Strong, a sophomore at ECC, will also join the Aggies in the fall.  Strong owns the record in the 6-kilometer run at ECC with a time of 22:22.89.  She helped the team earn the Northern Region team title in 2012 and was also part of the women’s cross country team that won back-to-back NWAACC Championships in 2011 and 2012.

“Hab and Katie will be great additions to our teams this fall,” assistant coach Christopher Huff said.  “They have the right attitude that we’re seeking for our team.”

Rubio and Strong join Megan McNally and Katara Nelson as recent signees to the Aggies’ cross country and track team.
