Since the implementation of this strategic plan, the results have been outstanding for Aggie student-athletes in the classroom. In 2009-10, 155 student-athletes earned Academic All-WAC honors compared to 76 in 2005-06.
Over the past semester those achievements were nothing short of phenomenal as the fall 2010 semester was the 11th consecutive semester that all 17 men's and women's athletic teams have a combined cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The cumulative GPA for all men's and women's teams after the fall 2010 semester was a 3.119. They did all this while averaging over 14 semester hours per student-athlete.
The NM State athletic department also has 12 student-athletes who have maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA throughout their career. However, there were a total of 44 student-athletes who earned a 4.0 during the 2010 fall semester.
After the 2010 fall semester, 55 percent of NM State's student-athletes carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. A total of 243 student-athletes representing all 17 varsity sports earned a 3.0 or better during the 2010 fall semester.
NM State has also exhibited its success in the classroom with the number of Academic All-Conference honors it has received. Since last year (2009-10) there were 80 honorees for the spring sports, 35 honorees for the winter sports and 33 honorees for the 2010 fall sports.
The Aggies also saw 18 student-athletes participate in the fall 2010 Commencement Ceremonies, while 86 percent of student-athletes graduate from NM State after exhausting their eligibility.
These results would not have been possible without the hard work of the student-athletes and the Academic Support Program & Services Center.
The Academic Support Program & Services Center is committed to providing quality educational services that achieve academic, personal, and career success for all student-athletes. The goal is to create an equitable, diverse environment that supports student-athletes excellence in academics and athletics that engages the university community and stakeholders in achieving and celebrating Aggies' success.

Over the past six years the NM State Athletics Department has initiated several programs to help its student-athletes succeed in the class.
A+ Aggie Program - The A+ Aggie Program which teaches and promotes lifelong educational and personal skills for the student-athlete. Personalized attention is given for each student through student development specialists - academic mentors & tutors, academic advisors, and a learning specialist.
Writing & Reading Comprehension Program - The Writing & Reading Comprehension Program that provides intense individual guidance to pre-selected student-athletes who require additional assistance in the various aspects of the writing process. The intent of the writing & reading program is to supplement and support sound education practices such as class attendance, note-taking, reviewing and preparing properly for quizzes, projects, and exams, and staying current with all assignments, which are imperative for academic success for all students.
Other programs include the Class Attendance & Academic Appointment Policy, Academic Appointment Policy, the Academic Tracking of Student-Athletes after their initial semester at NM State and the Early Warning Academic System.
