RENO, Nev. – The New Mexico State baseball team hit three home runs but that wasn't enough as it fell 11-5 to the University of Nevada at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev., Thursday, April 16.

The Aggies fall to 30-7 overall and 5-4 in Western Athletic Conference play, while Nevada went to 17-17 and holds on to the top spot in conference play at 6-2.  Senior right hander Tyler Sturdevant was credited with the loss and falls to 4-3 on the year.  Senior Bryan Marquez took his league leading home run total to 17 when he blasted a shot over the centerfield wall to lead-off the fourth inning.  Junior Wade Reynoso also hit a solo homer in the fourth, while senior catcher Jeff Farnham blasted a shot over the left field wall in the seventh.

NM State fell behind early in the game when the Wolf Pack scored two runs in the first, while one run was scored on a balk.  The Aggies got on the board in the third when Farnham, who was 3-of-4 and just a triple short of hitting for the cycle, hit an RBI double.  It was Farnham’s 10th double of the season, making him the fourth Aggie to pick up at least 10 doubles.

Nevada scored two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead but two bombs in the top of the fourth pull the Aggies to within one.  NM State tied up the ball game in the top of the sixth when junior Mike Sodders, who played in his first game since March 28, hit an RBI single to left field.

The Wolf Pack gain momentum in the bottom of the sixth crossing the plate four times before NM State scored one more time in the top of the seventh.  The scoreboard showed the Aggies down 8-5 heading into the eighth, but Nevada sealed the game with three more runs scored in the bottom of the inning to win 11-5.

The Aggies will play game two of the series with Nevada, Friday, April 17 with first pitch set for 2pm (MDT).
