NM State Equestrian Advances to Second Round of National Championships

WACO, TEXAS – The NM State Western Equestrian team defeated Auburn, 6-2, in the first round of the 2009 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, Thursday morning at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex in Waco, Texas.

 

The Aggies beat the Tigers in both Reining (3-1) and Horsemanship (3-1).

 

In Horsemanship, Kate Chesley defeated Kylie Miller, 140-0, while Tonna Brooks beat Amy Bohan 143-142. Rachael Krause captured the win for NM State in Horsemanship with a 145-143 win over Bailey Dymond. Codi Binkerd fell just short in her head-to-head match-up with Jessica Jones, 146-143.

 

The Aggies carried the momentum into the Reining competition, as Ashley Dietz beat Kim Pope, 142-140.5. Chesley and Brooks both grabbed their second victory of the day, as Chesley defeated Lyndsey Jordan 134.5-131.5, while Brooks beat Paige Monforee 125.5-110. Krause dropped a heartbreaker to Jessica Jones 134.5-127.

 

The Aggies will now face the No. 1 seed Texas A&M starting this afternoon in Horsemanship, while wrapping up the competition tomorrow morning with the Reining event.
