COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New MexicoState senior Krystal Torres of NM State volleyball team is one of approximately 160 athletes that will take part in the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts set for Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Torres led the Aggies to its first-ever Western Athletic Conference regular-season title while setting the all-time digs record with 1,942 digs under her belt, during her Aggie career.Torres is honored to take part in this tryout and plans to represent the NM State volleyball program to the best of her ability.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for me that I just couldn’t pass up,” Torres said. “I am really looking forward to it and this is a good chance for me to represent the volleyball program, the university and the community.”
Torres finished the 2008 season with 534 digs and owns the single-season digs record with 615 in the 2006 season.Her 1,942 digs is also second in the WAC on the all-time digs list.
Torres was named a 2008 first-team All-WAC selection after her efforts this season, and also earned 2008 AVCA All-American (honorable mention) honors while she led the WAC in digs coming up with 4.41 digs per set, while she had 10 or more digs in 32 of 34 matches and had 20 or more digs seven times.
