Ole Pete has the reputation of being a shrewd horse trader but the football game, Saturday, Nov. 22, has a deal that no one should pass up. You don’t need to be Monty Hall to make a great deal at Aggie Memorial Stadium. I’ll yield to another old trail rider, Clint Eastwood, who made his name riding the range and hunting down bad guys for a “Fist full of Dollars.”

Bring that silver or green back to the Aggie ticket window and you can buy any seat in the house for just $2. That includes those comfortable chair back seats on the 50, if there are any available on down to the goal line. From row one to the goal line to up near the press box, $2 is all you need to see the Aggies in their final home game. For a few dollars more, as Clint used to say, you can get any concession stand item for $2 each too. Except those grilled burgers, everything else is just $2.

The NMSU economic relief effort is hittin’ the Mesilla Valley at the right time to see one last game with the greatest passing quarterback and receiver corps NMSU has ever had. Senior quarterback Chase Holbrook has given Aggie fans hundreds of thrills hitting senior wide receivers Chris Williams and A.J. Harris on the fly and taking them down field through the air. The men inside who do the heavy work for Holbrook will be playing their last game at Aggie Memorial too. Richie Bolin and Polo Gutierrez had given their all along with defenders, Derrick Richardson, Lauli Fonoti, Rhyan Anderson, Jamar Cotton, Sam King and Las Crucen Ross Connor.

So you are sitting there thinking you are as shrewd a horse trader as ole Pete? I haven’t told you the half of it. It’s not only an economic relief package; it’s a fan appreciation day as well. More than $15,000 in fan prizes will be distributed including a hot tub that will relax those sore muscles after a ride on the prairie or a jaunt down Solano. That is just one of the prizes the NMSU Athletics Department is handing out come Saturday.

It’s the Aggies way of saying thanks to the people who have been supporting the squad all year. A big crowd is only right if you ask ole Pete. These men have put their back into every play of every game. If the score wasn’t always in favor of the Aggies it wasn’t for lack of effort. So why don’t join ole Pete and make the effort as well to be in the stands at Aggie Memorial for this season finale.
