NM State Equestrian Continues Hot Streak

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 6 ranked New Mexico State Equestrian team continued its hot streak on Saturday afternoon by defeating South Dakota State, 10-4, for its seventh-straight victory, moving the team to 7-2 overall on the season. The Aggies picked up three Most Outstanding Players on the afternoon.

The Hunter Seat team beat SDSU 5-2, as the Equitation on the Flat went 3-0-1 and Equitation over Fences went 2-2.

In the Flat event, Hannah Swarthout was MOP for the second straight day, beating Mandy Gradert, 69-66.  Amber Tassel defeated Natalie Howard, 77-64, and Emily McConnell won 75-70 over Jessica Andrononwitz. Julie Frey would tie Blair Julia Wright, 68 all.

McConnell added another win in over Fences by a score of 83-77, over Santana Wright and Shannon Dooley earned MOP honors with an 85-72 victory over Julia Wright.

In the Western competition, the Aggies won 5-2 overall, going 3-0-1 in Horsemanship and 2-2 in Reining.

Clarissa Edgerton beat Sarah Bowen in Horsemanship, 75-70, earning MOP, and Lauren DeVoe defeated Elizabeth Niewojnja, 72.5-72. Brynn Larson earned the other point for NM State by beating Victoria Johnson, 72.5-71. Rianna Storey tied Shelby Webb, 72.5 all.

Larson collected her second win of the day over Caroline Lesousky, 72-69.5, as Tara Wilson defeated Makayle Reed, 71.5-68.5.

The Aggies wrapped up the fall season and will be back in the arena on Feb. 1, 2014, as they host South Carolina in Las Cruces.
