LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The New Mexico State University men’s tennis team wrapped up its participation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional on Saturday by losing two quarterfinal doubles matches, one on the main draw and one on the consolation draw, at the Darling Tennis Center.
After winning three straight matches in the last three days, the doubles team of sophomores Thomas Douglas and Naveen Manivannan finally lost their first match of the tournament. The Aggie duo fell in the quarterfinals of the main draw to Idaho’s Jose Bendeck and Cristobal Ramos, 8-4.
The news was not much better for NM State’s other remaining doubles team, sophomore Liam Goldberg and senior Marc Westgate. Goldberg and Westgate competed in a consolation quarterfinal match versus Ben Gendron and Austin Mayo of Northern Arizona. Unfortunately, for the Aggie tandem, they could not finish the match because of an injury and had to forfeit the match.
The ITA Mountain Regional concluded the fall schedule for the NM State men’s tennis team. The squad now looks forward to beginning dual matches in late January.
