LAS CRUCES, N.M. – For the second consecutive day the New Mexico State women’s golf team carded a 14-over-par 302 round on Wednesday and concluded the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate, being played at the par-72, 6,258-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course, with a total-team score of 38-over 902 (298-302-302) and in 10th place.

Sophomore Viviana Macias finished as the top scorer for the Aggies.  Macias shot a 2-over 74 during Wednesday’s final round to place her in a tie for 17th with a total three-round score of 6-over-par 222 (75-73-74).

Fellow sophomore Kacey Dalpes had an up-and-down final round including two birdies and a double bogey.  Her three-day score of 10-over 226 was good enough to place her in a tie for 33rd place.

The low round on Wednesday for NM State came from freshman Kristen Cline who shot a round of 1-over-par 73.  Cline, playing in her first tournament as an Aggie this week, was the only NM State golfer to improve on her score after each round.  She finished one shot behind Dalpes with a total score of 11-over 227 (79-75-73) and in a tie for 37th place.  Among those tied with Cline was Aggie junior Laura Barron who also carded an 11-over 227 (76-75-76).

Other scores for NM State include: junior Paige Darwin in a tie for 45th with a 13-over 229 (75-78-76), freshman Valeria Macias in a tie for 49th with a 14-over 230 (73-77-80), freshman Camille Orito in a tie for 57th with a 17-over 233 (82-75-76) and senior Amelie Buhl in a tie for 70th with a 23-over 239 (79-79-81).

Portland State, who trailed UC Irvine after each of the first two rounds, overcame a two-shot deficit heading into the final round to take home the team title.  The Vikings shot their second-consecutive round of even par 288 to finish at 3-over 867 (291-288-288), five shots ahead of the Anteaters who had their worst day of the tournament and finished at 8-over 872 (290-287-295).

Portland State was led by A Ram Choi who blew by the competition after shooting a 5-under 67 on Wednesday, the low round of the tournament.  Choi took home the individual crown with a total score of 8-under-par 208 (68-73-67), six shots clear of her teammate Riley Leming and Cincinnati’s Olivia Dose who finished in a tie for second at 2-under 214.

NM State now prepares to head over to the enchanted islands of Hawai’i to conclude its fall schedule.  The Aggies will participate in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational being played Oct. 29-31.
