LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State University women’s tennis team heads out to San Diego this weekend, Sept. 27-29, to compete in the San Diego State Fall Classic hosted by San Diego State University.
The tournament, being played at the Aztec Tennis Center, will be the third tournament for the Aggies in as many weeks. NM State kicked off its fall schedule at home by hosting the Aggie Invitational and competed in the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas last week.
The Aggies already have an impressive showing this season with two individual wins and two second-place finishes. Freshman Brittany Collens and and junior Susana Alcaraz each tallied their first win in the Crimson and White during the Aggie Invitational. Meanwhile, senior Annemieke Witte also reached the finals of her flight, but lost to finish in second place.
At the UNLV Invitational, sophomore Chloe Jolliff also ended up with a second-place finish in her flight after losing in the final. The tournament also saw a couple of Aggie players finish in third, Collens and sophomore Mia Brandt.
During last year’s SDSU Fall Classic, all seven NM State participants came home with at least one win. The Aggies were led by current senior Ros-Polly Nguyen who won her final two matches of the tournament, including a consolation final win.
