LAS CRUCES, N.M. (August 8) – New Mexico State head women’s basketball coach Mark Trakh announced the signing of freshman Audra Jones to a financial aid agreement for the 2013-14 season. Jones joins eight new Aggies for the upcoming season.

Jones is set to compete for both sports during the 2013-14 season, with the Aggie volleyball season beginning with the NM State Alumni Game on Aug. 24, at 5 p.m.

“Audra (Jones) is going to be a big asset for our program,” Trakh said. “She is a tall, mobile post player that has a lot of potential. We are extremely excited about the addition of Audra.”

The 6-5 center from Orland, Calif., first came to NM State as part of the Aggie volleyball team, and was then recruited by Trakh. Jones played at Hamilton High School where she helped the Braves to a league title during her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. She guided her team to a section championship in 2010 and 2011 and the team made it to the sweet sixteen during Jones’ junior season. During that year, the Braves finished with a 30-1 overall record. Jones finished her high school career with a third place finish in the league with a 12-14 record on the court.

She was named all-league three times, all-state for two seasons and participated in the Northern Section All-Star game. She was a CalHi all-state nominee and made the Nor Cal Prep Top 40 list. Named Athlete of the Year as a senior, Jones was a scholar-athlete and her team’s most valuable player. She ended her senior campaign with 14.1 points per game and an average of 11.6 rebounds per contest. She had 66 blocks, 310 points and 255 rebounds on the season.

Off the court, Jones was the valedictorian of her class and student of the year. Jones was born on August 5, 1995, in Chico, Calif.  She is the daughter of Jim and Diane Jones.  Her brother, Daniel Jones is presently on the Oregon State basketball team and her sister Andrea Jones played basketball at Pacific.  She is also related to former PGA legend Arnold Palmer.
