LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team welcomes Western Athletic opponents Utah State and Denver for the Aggies’ final home weekend of the season, April 12 and 14. NM State first battles the northern Aggies on Friday, April 12 at 12 p.m., then finishes off the home schedule for 2013 with Denver on Sunday, April 14 at 12:30 p.m.
The Aggies will honor seniors Jodie Williams and Ginet Pinero as part of the Senior Day celebration at Sunday’s match. Williams and Pinero have each been vital members of the team since 2009.
Utah State comes to the NM State Tennis Center after falling to UTEP on Thursday afternoon 6-1. USU is now 5-10 going into the conference dual with the crimson Aggies. McKenzie Davis is the player to watch for USU with an 11-3 singles record at the No. 1 spot. The team is 1-4 in WAC play, with its only win coming over Seattle U on April 7.
NM State then closes out the home schedule against the Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. Denver goes into the weekend ranked No. 57 in the ITA polls. Currently on a six-match winning streak, the Pioneers meet USU on Saturday, before closing out the weekend with NM State.
DU is 13-3 this season and 6-0 in WAC play. Sophia Bergner leads the Pioneers with a 14-4 singles record at the No. 1 spot.
NM State looks to the leadership of its seniors and the work of junior Ros-polly Nguyen (12-4) in singles play. The Aggies are looking to bust out of a four game slump that includes three WAC games.
