NM State Menís Golf Tied for Eighth at ASU Thunderbird

Phoenix, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men’s golf team is currently tied for eighth overall after round two of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the par-71, 7,031-yard Karsten Golf Course. The Aggies carded a team score of 2-over par, 286 in round two and are at 7-over par, 575 (289-286) after two rounds of play.

 

“I thought we played really god golf today,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “We didn’t start off to good but really pulled it together and finished strong. We made some late birdies and played competitive. I’m very proud of our team today.”

 

Freshman Kenneth Fadke led NM State in the second round with a 2-under par, 69, carding three birdies on the final four holes of play. For the tournament, Fadke is 1-under par, 141 and tie for 13th overall.

 

Sophomore Brett Walker rebounded in round two with an even par, 71, firing five birdies in the round. He is currently tied for 42nd overall at 4-over par, 146. Senior Justin Shin was 1-over par, 72 in the second round, carding three birdies. Shin sits in a tied for 24th and is 1-over par, 143 after two rounds.

 

Junior Willy Hogan again carded a 3-over par, 74, bringing his two-round total to 6-over par, 148. He is tied for 51st overall. In the second round, Hogan had three birdies.

 

Senior Derek Baade slipped in round two with a 6-over par, 77. He is now 7-over par, 149 after two rounds and is tied for 60th overall.

New Mexico leads the team tournament at 6-under par, followed by San Diego (-4), Oregon State (-4), UNLV (-2), California (-2) and San Diego State (-2). Nick Chianello of Oregon State is atop of the leader board at 10-under par after two rounds.

The Aggies and the rest of the field will be back in action Sunday morning with a shot gun start slated for 7:30 a.m. for the final round of play.
