SPOKANE, WASH. – The New Mexico State men’s tennis team worked its way to a 6-1 victory over Montana to open the weekend road stretch, Wednesday, March 27, at Scotford Tennis Center in Spokane, Wash. The win is No. 10 this season for the Aggies, who now look to face Gonzaga on Thursday, March 28.

NM State battled some tough competition in doubles. The Aggies won each of the three matches by just two points. While NM State claimed the win on the first and third courts 8-6, Germain Degardin and Yannick Blank paired up for a battle at court two. The duo worked for an eventual 9-7 win over the Grizzlies pair.

“We played really well today,” head coach Carlos Vargas said. “this was a good start to the tough string of matches we have on the road this week.”

The Aggies continued to dominate in singles play, winning five of the six matches. The Aggies swept courts two through six in consecutive sets; with the only loss coming against senior Luis Ramirez at court one.

At the fifth position, Paul Denele worked for his 10th win of the spring season, moving his overall singles record to 10-3. He topped Semion Branzburg 7-5, 6-3 to help NM State claim the win.

The Aggies now meet Gonzaga at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, before heading into a weekend against Idaho and Eastern Washington.
