LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The New Mexico State women's tennis team
opens Western Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, March 20, against San Jose
State in San Jose, Calif. NM State then continues in California over the weekend
to meet Texas State, Louisiana Tech and Seattle March 22-24.
The Aggies are on a three-game winning streak and go into the
conference-opening week with a 4-7 record and recent win over I-10 rival UTEP.
Junior Ros-Polly Nguyen sits on a 7-3 overall singles record to lead the Aggies
against the 8-4 Spartans. SJSU spent the last three weeks nationally ranked,
but fell out of the ITA rankings as of March 18.
Texas State holds a 4-4 record going into the week but meets La. Tech before
the Aggies. The Bobcats topped No. 75 ULM, but fell most recently to No. 26
Rice.
La. Tech goes into the week with a 5-3 record this season, but comes with the reigning WAC Player of the Week, Alexandra Starkova. She is undefeated this season in both singles and doubles play.
Seattle is 3-5 this season and sitting on two losses in the recent weeks. Led in singles by Lindsey Newman with a 4-2 record at the No. 1 spot, she is 5-3 overall and also boasts a 5-3 record at the second doubles position this season, playing primarily with Sarah Lucas.
NM State kicks off the weekend against host San Jose State at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 20. The Aggies then face Texas State March 22 and finish the weekend against La. Tech and Seattle on Saturday and Sunday. Each of the three weekend matches are set for 10 a.m.
