Aggies Host Texas State Saturday

The New Mexico State men's basketball team hosts Texas State, Saturday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. inside the Pan American Center. The game is an AggieVision production with Jeff Matthews and Glen Cerny. The game can be heard on the Aggie Sports Network and KGRT 104 FM in Las Cruces with the 'Voice of the Aggies' Jack Nixon, and the pregame show starts 30 minutes prior to tip. The game is also available in Spanish with Edgar Gardell on Vista 98.7 FM. The contest is tape delayed in Las Cruces until 10 p.m., and shown live on Comcast, Fox Sports-Arizona, CSN-Houston and ESPN3.

New Mexico State Aggies

The Aggies are 7-8 and 1-2 in the WAC following an 82-62 win over UTSA, Jan. 3. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings is leading the team with 14.6 points per game. Senior forward Tyrone Watson adds 10.0 points per game, and freshman center Sim Bhullar contributes 9.1 points per contest.  

Scouting Texas State

The Bobcats are 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the WAC after a 64-53 loss at Denver, Jan. 3. Junior forward Joel Wright leads the team with 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while senior forward Matt Staff provides 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Series Notes

The Aggies and Bobcats are tied 1-1 in the all-time series. NM State won the last meeting, 80-65, Dec. 29, 1987 in Las Cruces.

Aggies Set School Record in 82-62 Win

With a strong second-half start, the Aggies defeated UTSA, 82-62, Jan. 3. The Aggies broke the school record for team field goal percentage, which stood for 39 years. NM State shot 68.6 percent from the field (35-of-51) and broke the previous record of 66.2 percent from Jan. 19, 1974. The Aggies were also one shy of tying the school record for blocked shots with 11 against the Roadrunners. Senior forward Bandja Sy scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He also had eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Freshman center Sim Bhullar added 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting along with three blocked shots. He helped the Aggies to a 30-point advantage in points in the paint, 48-18. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings was also in double figures with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. He added four steals and four assists. NM State posted a season-high 21 assists.
