Release:  10/30/2012

WAHIAWA, Hawai'i (Oct. 30, 2012) - The New Mexico State women's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, being played at the par 72, 6,228-yards Leilehua Golf Course, on Tuesday with a two-round total score of 56-over-par 632 (315-317) placing them in 11th place heading into the final round.

The Aggies began the day by shooting a team score of 27-over-par 315 after the first 18 holes, placing them in 10th place after round one.  They followed the morning round with a 29-over-par 317 during the second round.

NM State has placed a golfer close to the top of the leader board after each of the first two rounds.

After two rounds, senior Aileen Meredith sits in a tie for 12th with eight other golfers at 6-over-par 150 (78-72).  Meredith, who was in a tie for 33rd after the first round, used an even-par round in the afternoon to climb up the leader board.  Her second round score, which was aided by four birdies, was tied for the best round of round two.

Freshman Kacey Dalpes began the day by shooting a 2-over-par 74 during the first round, good enough to place her in a tie for eighth heading into round two.  Unfortunately for Dalpes, a double and triple bogey during the second round moved her in the opposite direction of Meredith.  Dalpes will begin the final round with an 11-over-par 155 and in a tie for 35th.

Among the other Aggie golfers, sophomore Laura Barron matched her first-round score of 9-over-par 81 during her second round to finish with a total score of 18-over-par 162 (81-81) and in a tie for 57th.  Junior Amelie Buhl will start the final round in a tie for 62nd with a total score of 21-over-par 165 (82-83) while sophomore Paige Darwin will start with a 27-over-par 171 (87-84) and in a tie for 67th.

Overall, there is a tie for the team lead heading into the final round on Wednesday between Florida International and Toledo.  Both teams will enter the final 18 holes with total-team score of 19-over-par 595.  Florida International had a five-stroke lead over Toledo after the first round, but Toledo used a late surge during the second round to pull even.  Washington State, who was in third after the first round, remains in that spot and within striking distance at 21-over-par 597.

Individually, Washington State's Kristen Rue, who was in a first-place tie after round one with Amanda Keith of BYU and Alex Alang of Memphis at 1-under-par, will take a one-shot lead into Wednesday's final round.  After two rounds, Rue stands at even par 144 (71-73).  Alang is in a three-way tie for second with Shelby Coyle of Florida International and Sarah Johnson of Eastern Michigan at 1-over-par 145.  UC Irvine's Michelle Park rounds out the top five at 2-over-par 146.

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational concludes on Wednesday (Oct. 31) with an 18-hole final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (HT), 12 p.m. MT.
