LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP)-Jonathan Gibson scored a career-high 30 points to lead New Mexico State to an 83-73 victory over Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
Gibson became the 25th player at NMSU to top the 1,000-points mark for his career. Reggie Lassiter led Oklahoma Panhandle State with 17 points.
New Mexico State shot 47 percent from the floor to win its first game of the season while Panhandle State fell to 0-3.
Leading by 10 at halftime, NMSU pushed its lead to 56-41 with a 9-4 run early in the second half. NMSU led by as many as 20 in the second half, shooting 50 percent in the second half on 12 of 24 shooting.
Oklahoma Panhandle State was 41.9 percent from the field for the game after shooting 43 percent and hitting five 3-pointers in the first half.
