NM State Men’s Golf Finishes Fall Season

Kahuku, Hawai'i - The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up their 2009 fall season with an 8-under par, 280 at the Turtle Bay College Invitational, in Kahuku, Hawai'i. The Aggies finished fifth overall with a three round score of 6-over par, 870.     

In the final round, the Aggies carded five rounds of under par golf, after recording just one in the first two rounds. The Aggies recorded 25 birdies in the final round.

Junior Tim Madigan fired a final round score of 3-over par, 69. Madigan tallied five birdies on the day and finished 1-over par, 217 for the tournament. He finished tied for 14th overall.

The Aggie freshmen Justin Shin and Derek Baade stole the show, as Shin finished 3-under par, 69, while Baade fired a 1-under par, 71. Shin tallied eight birdies on the day including four in a row at one point in the round. He finished the tournament at 3-over par, 219, tying him for 18th overall. Baade carded three birdies on the day, finishing the tournament at 7-over par, 223, tying him for 36th.

Sophomore Gaston De La Torre finished his fall season strong with a 1-under par, 71 in the final round. He tallied five birdies on the day and finished the tournament tied for 18th overall at 3-over par, 219. Senior Ryan Word wrapped up his tournament with a 1-under par, 71, recording four birdies on the day. Word finished at 3-over par, 219 for the tournament, tying him for 18th as well.

San Diego State won the team tournament with a three round score of 26-under par, followed by Illinois (-8), Santa Clara (-3) and Long Beach State (-1). Andrew Cooley and Alex Kang of San Diego State split a share of the individual title at 7-under par.                                                                                                                                

The Aggies will now be off from competition until February 5th, when they compete in The New Mexico Collegiate Cup, in T or C, N.M.
