LAS CRUCES, N.M.-New Mexico State men’s basketball head coach Marvin Menzies has added Michael Clay to the Aggie staff as video coordinator, Menzies announced Monday, Nov. 2

“Getting a quality hire like Michael this close to the basketball season is a real plus for us,” Menzies said. “Michael has many local ties since he’s from Albuquerque and a graduate of New Mexico Highlands. He comes recommended very highly from people I know and trust. I feel very fortunate to add him to our staff.”

Prior to arriving in Las Cruces, Clay spent over five years working with youth in New Mexico and Washington, D.C. Most recently, he worked at the University of New Mexico advising college students including athletes.

From 2007-09, Clay coached the New Mexico Force, an AAU team in Albuquerque, N.M. He began his coaching career as an assistant at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M. He worked with the Cowboys from 2002-04 after playing at New Mexico Highlands for two seasons. As a senior guard, Clay was a first team All-RMAC West selection. At Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., Clay led the Apaches to an Arizona Community College Athletic College and Region I Championships in 2000 as a sophomore. He also earned all-conference accolades that season.

The Albuquerque, N.M., native earned a bachelor’s degree in health education from New Mexico Highlands in 2003.
