Equestrian Wins Third Straight

Martin, Tennessee - The New Mexico State Equestrian team won its third straight competition this weekend with a 12-4 win over Tennessee-Martin at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. The Western team took a clean sweep in both Horsemanship and Reining, while the Hunter Seat team tied in Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. The Aggies improve to 3-1 on the season as a team.

"This is a great feeling for us to have won three straight competitions," head coach Andrea Hanson said. "The team is riding very well right now. Every competition we are riding better and better. If we continue to improve like we are in every competition we will be at our best come nationals in the spring.

A veteran Western team dominated Tennessee-Martin in Horsemanship, 4-0. Rachael Krause led the way with an MVP ride, beating Stephanie Sanders, 74 to 73, while Megan Gould defeated Michelle Chullock, 72.5 to 70. Codi Binkerd handled her opponent, Hannah Derks, 72.5 to 62.5, as Pamela Evans rounded out the sweep with a win over Heidi Grimm, 71 to 70.

In the Reining competition, the Aggies kept things rolling with another 4-0 victory. This time Rebecca McReynolds was named MVP after defeating Sanders, 71 to 70. Krause grabbed her second win of the day with a 70.5 to 62.5 win over Grimm, while Kate Goodwin continued her solid riding for NM State, as she beat Blair Childress, 69.5 to 69. Breanne Bertrand would edge out Derks, 70.5 to 70, giving the Aggies their second clean sweep of the day on the Western side.

In the Hunter Seat competition, the Aggies would tie in the Equitation on the Flat, 2-2. Chelsea Keyes won MVP honors with a 74 to 64 win over Kelsey Abell. Brianna Raab grabbed the other point for the Aggies with a 79 to 74 victory over Michelle Thompson.

In the Equitation over Fences, Raab recorded her second win over day, defeating Madeline Brown, 59 to 50, while Laura Bostwick beat Katie Miranda, 73 to 71, as the Aggies tied 2-2.

The Aggies will be back in action on Nov. 20-21 as they take on Baylor and South Carolina at the NM State Equestrian Center. This will be the Aggies final two fall competitions.
