LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State swimming and diving team beat WAC foe Northern Arizona, 152-147, and Northern Colorado, 220-79, in a double-dual meet, Saturday, Oct. 31, at the NM State Natatorium in Las Cruces, N.M.

“Overall, it was nice to get the win,” head coach Rick Pratt said. “The girls raced pretty hard, but we have a lot of work to do, and we had a lot of sloppy races. I thought overall their legs looked really tired and many swimmers still have to adjust to the heavy workload.”

To open the meet, the Aggies claimed second and third in the 200-medley relay. The team of senior Meghann Percy, sophomore Maria Spies, junior Kelly Conrad and senior Tessa Bain led the way for NM State.

Conrad had strong performances in the sprint freestyle events as she collected top honors in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free. NM State earned a pair of third-place finishes with freshman Jessi Vlasic in the 200 free and freshman Eryn Murphy in the 50 free.

The Aggies swept the 100 breast with junior Kelly Runestrand, junior Alannah Lawrence and Spies finishing in first, second and third. Runestrand also won the 200 breast with Spies in third.

In the distance freestyle events, the Aggies were solid with sophomore Brittney Moore and senior Liz Thomson taking the top two spots in the 500 free. Thomson and Moore also collected the silver and bronze, respectively, in the 1,000 free.

Percy guided the Aggies earning a second-place showing in both the 100 and 200 back. Freshman Morgan Kimminau followed in third in the 200.

In the 200 fly, senior Victoria Eickerman dominated with nearly a four-second victory as freshman Hannah Ferrin was third. Eickerman then finished in second place in the 100 fly.

On the 1-meter springboard, junior Mariesa Cloud was third. Freshman Beth Cate led the Aggies in the 200 individual medley with a runner-up finish while NM State finished the meet with a second-place showing in the 400-free relay.

The Aggies return to the pool against New Mexico and Wyoming, Nov. 14, in Albuquerque, N.M.
