RUSTON, La.-Freshman midfielder Kassie Martinez scored her first career goal at Louisiana Tech, Friday, Oct. 23, in Ruston, La., but the New Mexico State soccer team fell in double overtime, 2-1. The Aggies are now 4-1-1 in the WAC and 9-6-1 overall.

With less than two minutes in regulation, Martinez tied the match at 1-1 to force extra time.

“We went down 1-0 and showed a lot of resolve to come back and score with a couple minutes left in regulation,” head coach Michael Needham said. “Kassie Martinez had a really great goal and I’m happy about that.

The Lady Techsters scored first at the 21st-minute mark but the Aggies fought in the second half with 11 shots. After a scoreless first overtime period, Louisiana Tech collected the win in the 107th minute.

“We put them under quite a bit of pressure in overtime,” Needham said. “There’s a lot of battle in these kids and they never give up. Now we’ll move on and get ready for Nevada.”

The Aggies host their final home match of the season Friday, Oct. 30, against Nevada, at 7 p.m. at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
