LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State soccer team improved to 2-0 in WAC play with a 3-2 win over Idaho, Sunday, Oct. 4, at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M. The Aggies had a strong second half effort with three goals to tie a season-high performance.

“They just worked their butts off,” head coach Michael Needham said. “I’ve very proud of them. This was an absolute massive game for our program.”

Trailing 2-0 at the half, NM State attacked aggressively to start the second period and freshman midfielder Jazmin Cardoso scored the Aggies’ first goal of the contest on a corner kick from junior midfielder Baili Foutz in the 51st minute. Cardoso leads the squad in goals with four while Foutz has a team-high three assists.

The Aggies continue to push the ball and freshman midfielder Lauren Cope tied the match at the 60-minut mark with a three-yard strike on a great pass from freshman forward Crystal Burns. Cope has two goals this season and both have come in WAC play.

Freshman defender Yolanda McMillion gave NM State a 3-2 advantage when she ran around the goalkeeper to score from 15 yards. She now has three scores on the year.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Katie Graul anchored the team with nine saves and seven in the final 45 minutes of action.

The Aggies continue conference action on the road as they travel to Fresno State, Oct. 9, and San Jose State, Oct. 11.
