LAS CRUCES – Head coach Don Ball announced Tuesday that he has signed Forrest Keaton to a National Letter of Intent to attend New Mexico State and play tennis for the Aggies beginning in the fall.
Keaton comes from New Braunfels, Texas where he graduated from New Braunfels High School. He was the 2009 Texas 5A state champion in mixed doubles with a perfect 22-0 record. Keaton also helped lead the Unicorns to the 2008 team state tennis championship.
Assistant coach Carlos Vargas said that Keaton is a very strong, athletic kid with a bright future.
“Eventually he’ll become a big factor in our lineup after he gets some experience and works on a couple of things,” Vargas said. “He has a big serve and likes to serve and volley. Coming fresh out of high school he has a lot of potential.”
Standing at 6-5, Keaton becomes one of the tallest student-athletes in the WAC. He also was a center for New Braunfels High School’s basketball team.
Keaton enters with Luifer Ramirez, who will join the Aggies for the 2010 spring dual match season, as part of Ball’s 2009 signing class.
