Well, ole Pete is cleaning up the meat smoker, cleansing the grill and stocking up on paper plates and drinkin’ cups. It’s time to get serious about the upcoming Aggie football season. In two weeks, the first Aggie win will be in the books and we will be getting ready to take the measure of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

That’s right, less that two weeks and you and I will be elbow to elbow in the tailgate area and shoulder to shoulder in Aggie Memorial enjoying the best show to hit town. I say that because we’ll see fireworks on the field and pyrotechnics in the sky. I’ve got my cowbell handy and together we’ll make a ruckus like never before heard in Aggie Memorial. I love the cowbell idea cause it lets everyone ‘cowboy up’ and let loose making noise for our team.

I’ll tell you a secret; I might be leaving my bar-b-que grill a little early cause the first 3,000 fans in the door Sept. 4 will get $1 ice creams and $1 hot dogs. Ummm, um, those are two basic food groups for this old wrangler. In addition to all of the excitement from the jumbotron, Keystone, the cheerleaders and Sundancers, there will be a fireworks show at the game and we haven’t even started talking about football.

Chase Holbrook and Chris Williams will be back for their best year ever. There are six or so other receivers just as slippery and speedy as Williams too. More running backs to improve that part of the offense and that Joe Lee Dunn defense, it’s all gonna bring tears of joy to your eyes. Swarming to the ball, giving the quarterbacks fits, keeping offensive coaches on the opponents side guessing, that’s “Joe Lee ball” and we’re gonna love it.

You know, the best way to start a championship bowl season is to get out of the blocks fast. That means on the field and in the stands. With this season primed to be spectacular, season tickets are a must have item. Don’t get left in the corral wishing you had saddled up to ride for the Aggie brand.

Opening night has got it all. There will be high school bands performing at the game, the night will be dedicated as Faculty Staff Appreciation as well. For the young and young at heart, Jimmy Neutron will be on hand to meet the fans and help make the night a festive one. So you see why I am getting my tailgate fixins ready now, I don’t want to waste a minute of my time on anything but the Aggies come September. Don’t forget your cowbell and we’ll share a victory campfire in the postgame.
