ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-The New Mexico State swimming and diving team defeated New Mexico, 159-140, Thursday, Jan. 31 in Albuquerque, N.M.  The win was the first for the Aggies over the Lobos in more than 25 years.

Head coach Rick Pratt said he was pleased with how his team opened the meet.

“We really jumped on them early,” he said.  “Our medley-relays were very impressive and did a great job, which gave us a lot of momentum.”

NMSU began the meet with a one-two finish in the 400-medley relay.  The team of junior Stephanie Peacock, freshman Alannah Lawrence, sophomore Victoria Eickerman and senior Carolyn Bohm collected the first points of the day.

The Aggies won both breaststroke events with Lawrence taking the 100 and freshman Kelly Runestrand winning the 200.  The pair is now in the top 5 in the WAC.

In the distance freestyle events, sophomore Liz Thomson won both the 500 and 1,000 races.  Freshman Kelly Conrad won both the 100 and 200 freestyle and she tied for second with sophomore Tessa Bain in the 50 free.

The Aggies swept the 100 backstroke with sophomore Bonnie Taylor earning top honors.  Peacock and Bain followed in second and third, respectively.  In addition, Taylor won the 200 event.
